Road Construction

Road Construction and Civil Works Built for Heavy Use

Estate roads, access roads, pavements and drainage designed to carry traffic and shed water for many years.

Overview

Road Construction & Civil Works by GBAAC

A road is only as good as what lies beneath it. Most road failures in Nigeria begin with poor subgrade preparation, inadequate compaction or drainage that cannot cope with rainy-season downpours. GBAAC approaches road and civil works with that in mind.

We undertake estate roads, access roads, car parks, hardstandings and associated drainage, working to an engineer's design and specification. Our role covers setting out, earthworks, base and sub-base construction, surfacing, kerbs, drains and culverts.

Road and civil works are typically delivered as part of estate development, commercial or industrial projects. Larger public infrastructure contracts are pursued subject to the qualification requirements of the procuring authority.

Our Methodology

How we deliver

  1. 01

    Design review

We review the engineer's design, levels and drainage strategy before pricing.

  2. 02

    Quotation

Itemised pricing by layer and element, so quantities can be measured.

  3. 03

    Earthworks

Subgrade preparation and compaction, the foundation of a lasting road.

  4. 04

    Layer inspections

Each layer is checked for level and compaction before the next is placed.

  5. 05

    Surfacing & drainage

Surfacing and drainage completed and tested in heavy rain where possible.

  6. 06

    Handover

Final inspection, as-built records and handover.

Deliverables

What you receive

  • Itemised bill of quantities
  • Construction programme
  • Layer inspection records
  • Drainage performance check
  • As-built information
  • Documented handover

Abuja's long rainy season and lateritic soils make drainage and compaction decisive. We plan road works to avoid placing critical layers in the heaviest rains, and we pay particular attention to outfalls so water is carried away from roads and buildings rather than onto neighbouring land.

FAQs

Common questions

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Ask our team

Do you design roads or only build them?

Road and drainage design should be carried out by a qualified civil engineer. We work to the engineer's design and can coordinate the appointment of one where needed.

Asphalt or interlocking paving: which is better for an estate?

Both can perform well. Asphalt suits longer, faster roads; interlocking paving is easier to repair locally and suits slower estate streets. The right choice depends on traffic, budget and maintenance plans.

Do you take on government road contracts?

Public contracts are subject to the qualification requirements of the procuring authority. We focus on private estate, commercial and industrial road works and will discuss public opportunities on a case-by-case basis.
